Silksworth CW 1-4 Durham FC

On a breezy, sunny, rainy and cloudy afternoon Durham FC made the journey to Welfare Park to take on Silksworth CW in a Monkwearmouth Charity Cup fixture. Manager Dean Smith shuffled his pack and gave competitive debuts to Josh Clark and Josh Stradling with Fletcher Bradley also making his first start for the club.

The game got under way in blustery conditions with Durham FC kicking up hill and in to the wind in the first half. The hosts used the elements at their back and took the lead in the 24th minute when defender Jack Banks was first to a loose ball that was ricocheting around the penalty area and fired past Harry Renwick . This stirred Durham FC in to action and the visitors were back on terms just after the half hour mark when Matthew Halliday was first to react to a deflection in the box and slot the ball past Liam Peverley in the Silksworth goal.

Durham FC began to take control and were unlucky not to take the lead when a Tom Young curled a free kick just over the bar on the stroke of half time.

A ten minute spell after the break clinched the game for Durham FC, with Halliday bagging his second in the 53rd minute when we was first to react to an Alfie Jordon shot that was blocked by the keeper, cooling slotting home from just inside the box. Durham FC were knocking the ball around with confidence and Halliday bagged his hat-trick on the hour mark, heading home a pin point cross from Fletcher Bradley to give themselves a two goal cushion.

The final goal was the pick of the bunch and this time it was the impressive Jay Wilson who picked up his first for the club. Wilson collected the ball on the edge of the box and jinked his way past three defenders before hammering the ball in to the bottom corner from an angle.

With the game secure, Durham made a number of changes including debuts for Yaya Jammeh and Luke Curry as well as more minutes for Finley Lackenby-Mason.

Lackenby-Mason had a chance to get himself on the score sheet but his turn and effort was saved by Peverley, and in the last minute fellow substitute Josh Harker had a chance but his header was again saved by the home custodian.
